The Company Secretary or CS course as it is popularly known is specially designed for students with a commerce background. However, students from any field of study after completing 12th standards can join this course. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India offers the course to be a Company Secretary. Candidates who seek admission for this program need to pass the national level entrance examination (graduates are exempted from the examination) CSSET which is the acronym for Company Secretary Executive Entrance test. There are overall four Company Secretary programs, which the candidates can pursue to be a secretary of a company - Foundation Programme, Executive Programme, Professional Programme and Management Training. Pursuing the Company Secretary course, helps the individual to be a company secretary of a particular organization.

How to Become a Company Secretary?

Candidates aspiring to become a Company Secretary must clear the entrance examination CSSET. Students who have completed their 10+2 are eligible to write this exam and graduates are exempted from the entrance examination. There are three levels in this course, viz. the foundation course, executive course and professional course. Candidates must pass a level to join the next higher level – to register for executive program; one must clear the foundation level. After successful completion of all the three levels, candidates can join the management training round. Accomplishing that, candidates will be officially certified as a Company Secretary (C.S) graduate.
